This review is heavily subjectiveThe only good demon is a dead demonIn a fantasy world where heroes and demon lords determine the balance of power, what happens when the hero dies? Without a hero, humanity faces the threat of demons running rampant. This novel explores that concept by flipping the script: instead of the usual hero vs. Evil, we follow a protagonist who becomes the demons' worst nightmare. She does to them what they do to humans, blackmail, schemes, threats, kidnapping, committing a long list of morally questionable acts. But is it justified? That depends on your moral compass.Yes, she kills demon family members and threatens them, but demons are humanity's sworn enemies. Is she wrong for doing evil to evil? The story adds complexity by showing demons not as mindless monsters but as beings with social structures, morals, and lives that mirror humans, blurring the line between good and evil. The novel brings a refreshing twist to the typical reincarnated-in-a-game trope. Unlike many MCs in similar stories, she isn't aware she's in a game, making her journey feel more grounded and raw. Her approach is ruthlessly pragmatic, she knows demons are dangerous, and the lives of innocents are at risk daily. There's no romanticized happy ending in sight, just survival. This realism gives the story a grittier edge, setting it apart from more traditional game-based narratives. The MC isn't seeking glory; she's simply navigating a brutal world where survival demands ruthless action. The tension between moral ideals and brutal necessity is explored throughout the story. The protagonist isn't your typical arrogant anti-hero either. She avoids fame to prevent becoming a target and uses her appearance as an innocent child to manipulate every situation in her favor. She's ruthless but not without morals. Sure, she commits genocide against demon children, but she has clear boundaries when it comes to humans. In many ways, she's like Goblin Slayer, but instead of goblins, she hunts demons with human-like intelligence and appearance. The story makes you question what defines a hero or a villain.PS. The power system and characters are solid, though the world-building feels a bit lacking, likely due to the current low chapter count. The story is primarily set in an academy, which may expand later on. I'd personally rate it 8.5/10; it's pretty good. The setting is also intriguing. Humans level up by killing demons, and demons do the same by killing humans. Plus, each "holy sword" has unique abilities, adding depth to the power system.Lastly, there are some noticeable translation mistakes, particularly with pronouns, but they're minor and hopefully will be fixed in future updates.
