It would've been more interesting to see how Shield created his barrier magic spells, but there's no real actual explanation on why they're so strong other than "he practiced the only thing he could for 10 years". So every fight he's in, it's pointless to expect anything much other than him casting barrier, and then if the opponent is a girl, she'll instantly proposes to him.

No characters actually have a personality worth mentioning -- all of them are stereotypical character tropes that never developed beyond anything besides being a bad antagonist or another harem member. Even Faye, the most interesting one out of the bunch, is nothing more than a gluttonous character.
