Was very hesitant to start this at first, and the reviews on it aren’t the kindest. BUT, it ended up being a good experience~ I didn’t read it all the way, so I can’t say much about the latter arcs. But what I did read was pretty good!

CHARACTERS: 4.5/5

Although there are times when the characters are a bit melodramatic, the author paid very close attention to things like character motivation, giving them more depth and complexity!

Ji Qingzhou (MC) :

A transmigrator that ended up taking on the role of a young actor from a book he just read. In the original novel, said young actor has been involved with another actor that treated him as a body double for his white moonlight. In the end, the original enters an abusive relationship with this other actor, and the MC absolutely refuses to be involved with that. As such, he chooses to go along with the canon fodder villain character whose interested in his body instead. 😂 Sounds bad, but the ML is actually quite respectful.

  • Minor Spoilers:Spoiler

Character wise, he’s got a very solid base. I can’t place him in just one setting because he’s very complex! He’s young, he acts well, and because his parents divorced when he was young, his thoughts on love are more complex than most.

Chu Cheng (ML) :

The cannon fodder villain of the original novel! He had a contract with the original!MC (he pays for the hospital bills of the MC’s mom in exchange for the MC’s body) but was forced to step out because the original!MC cheated on him with the original!ML. In this version, the MC chooses him and they continue their contract agreement!

  • Minor Spoilers:Spoiler

The ML is a businessman with a strong family background. He was interested in the MC because of his face and body, and quite straightforwardly offered up money in exchange. He enters the relationship ship with the idea that he’s a “golden backer” in mind and gets stuck on that mindset even as he becomes more and more fond of the MC.

ROMANCE: 5/5

Although some people may dislike the romance, I found myself liking it a lot. The two start off with a contract hanging over their heads, making things between them a bit ambiguous. Things get a little complicated when feelings start to get involved, especially since both the MC and ML still strictly abide by the rules of the contract. As a result, it’s a romance that’s touched by bitterness throughout. BUT! The hints of bitterness just added flavor to the romance, is you ask me. So I’m quite the fan. Of course, I didn’t read till the end, so maybe it starts to sour after they settle down a bit??? Not sure!

SETTING: 4/5

Although the setting is not the focus of the novel; the author didn’t completely abandon it! This is an Entertainment Circle novel, so theres’s the familiar face-slapping “working your way to the top” kind of feel hehe, which is quite fun.

PLOT: 4/5

A bit dramatic at times, as I said, but the premise is quite fun! The romance is the main focus, but there’s also the underlying tension with the Original!ML and his White Moonlight.

RATING: 4/5

Although I can’t say that it’s a fave for me, I quite enjoyed what I read. There was laughter and tears, what more do you need??? The story was a little hard to get into at first, not sure if that’s the translation or just the banter between the main CP (which included a lot of slang), but once I got into it, I couldn’t help but be drawn in by the complex characters and the drama between these two lil idiots. Overall, I thought it was both sweet and angsty! And I recommend it if you’re looking for something drama related~

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

  • Personal Enjoyment: Pretty high! I’d say, 4.5/5?? The beginning was rough, as mentioned, but once I got used to the banter and the jarring opening, I was set!
  • Literary Level: A bit complex to translate, I imagine. There are definitely flaws in execution of plot too, but nothing comes to mind right now. So I’ll give it 4/5!
  • Angst Level: The contractual relationship is a pretty big downer, but the author interspersed the angst with buckets of sweetness, so while there were definitely tears, I can’t say that it’s super angsty. So 3/5?
  • Heat Level: All the smut is censored! Only kissing and light petting is shown, but even then, it’s quite pure. So, 1/5 at most!
