I want to laugh, I want to cry. The book is so bad bye-💀 At first I was reading it seriously, but after a few paragraphs it became obvious that I should just take it in stride.
The s*xual themes; For a book that has a lot of s*xual tension, the author is pretty bad at writing s*xual tension. I found myself laughing at scenes that were supposed to be "tragic" or "sexy" like;
"Wen Xueya's eyes turned icy as he slowly parted those long, straight legs, ignoring the other's mu*derous glare, and proceeded to ruthlessly violate him..." It was when I saw this phrase I realised there was no hope for this book. Speaking of which, there seems to be a recurring theme of wanting to sexually ab*se people he hates?
"One day, he would drag this man from his high pedestal down into the filthy gutter. He would strip him naked, leave him without dignity, and make him moan shamelessly under countless people, crying and begging for mercy." Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I've never had this thought for someone I hated. Usually it's physical harm. Why tf was that the first thing or his mind? I guess you could make the argument that people have been lusting over him so that's all he knows, but it's still fkn weird imo.
The main character is so weird. He keeps going on about being straight, but then gets seduced so easily it's actually a joke. I also don't understand why he spent a hundred thousand points just to get a disguise? Like, I know you want to help the ML, but shouldn't getting home be your priority? What about your sister? now you have to get an extra 100, 000? And even spending more to be the most attractive? Just buy a mask and put it on dude😭 He and the system are just the definition of "idiot meets idiot".
The plot. There are too many plot holes. I was trying to go through each of them, but I realized it would just turn into an essay, with me analyzing the inconsistencies. The misunderstandings are so contrived that I can't help but laugh. Like wym "he likes to lick everything near his mouth". Tbh, the second that came up I just knew it would never get brought up again. It was so obviously there just to make them kiss.
The timeline is also really confusing. I don't know if it's the translation or if that's how it is in the RAWS, but it's really bad. The MC touches the ML's hair and his excuse is "He had spent too much time recently with Ye Changyuan and had developed an urge to touch anything furry". But he literally only touched his dog form like one time? Literally the briefest interaction where he rubbed his chin. It was so glossed over I didn't even expect it to come back up. So how tf did he spend "too much time" and form that habit? And Changyuan was reluctant to kill him because"Being served by Xie Qinghan these past few days had been quite comfortable"??? Y'all JUST MET YESTERDAY?
It's cliche; It's not the most cliché book I've read (far from it), but I feel like I've seen almost everything in some other book. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does get a little tiring. I'm not taking points off for that; I expected it from the synopsis. But if that bothers you, it's something to consider.
[collapse]I recommend that you read this book. I actually loved it, simply because I didn't take it seriously. (if I had, I would have "vomited blood from anger"). The only reason I didn't read past ch 12 was because it was behind a pay wall, and don't get me wrong, it's fun but not worth any amount.There're sm things wrong with it that I didn't mention (because the review was already too long), so I hope you can read it and play "spot the poor writing". Bad writing can be quite fun when done well😉Five stars.
