  • It has a nice story. Spoiler

Also just to add for someone who's complaining why MC didn't marry if she doesn't like a harem life remember the last wishes of the original (for her dream to realize aka: to live the life she didn't get to enjoy with same husband and her children to survive.) There's a penalty for failing. She herself said no but got no choice but to fulfill the original's
wishes. Thus why she didn't give her heart and quick to suggest divorce, to her it's a mission she has to fulfill. And for the official wife getting r*pe. This wasn't clear, ML ordered for a female guard. What that female guard did well /shrug.

    Spoiler

MC accidentally took over Mu Xi Yao's body when MXY's item that protects her try to grant her wish. Being a successful modern woman, MC doesn't want to live MXY's life but has no choice. MC is smart and cunning but too lazy to take action. She only does the minimum required for her to live in peace. But that doesn't mean MC is a pushover. If she, her buns and her peaceful life gets threatened she will pay them back a hundred fold. She does her research. Before getting married, she's mostly outside, finding people or reading in the library. She sends her servants to do things that may seem pointless or outrageous but ends extremely fruitful. She's a schemer but she'd never let anyone know until it's over. She's good at finding the right people for the right job, while still remaining anonymous and distant to major events. Understandable, as she is very aware of the limitions of women in that era. Still it won't stop her from giving a hint or a warning to ML or her family. Though she believe in independence and run her own business successfully thus, she doesn't need to rely on ML financially, she still put effort in keeping ML' s favor, and changes her attitude depending on ML's preferences. She does this to keep herself safe from scheming that may harm her. (Personally, I think she'd be fine even without ML's backing.) Which would sometime irk the ML as this made it obvious to ML that she is not in love with him as he cannot see MC's real self. Due to her being different compare to other women of that era, she attracted the interest

of two princes. With ML winning due to a little interference he did behind the scene. (To be fair, both princes interefere in the selection process.) ML is not monogamous, since polygamy is deeply ingrained in his principles. ML has multiple concubines and a main wife. (MC herself is just a concubine since she cannot gain the principal consort title as her family is of a lower rank.) Even though he loves and favor MC he'd still respect and give face to his other women so long as they don't scheme on or against him and don't interefere with MC. Meaning there's still a chance he'd visit his other women if necessary. Matter of fact he stays over his main wife's place twice a month. This is fine for MC since she just see him as her boss and the other women her colleagues. Though ML promised MC to be faithful to her, she doubt this promise and refuses to give her heart. Even making a request that if he sleeps with other women for whatever reason, thus breaking his promise, he would give her a divorce. ML showed his possessive thoughts here, thinking of tying MC to his side. Telling MC she can do whatever she wants except gegting away from him.

There's enough harem drama and palace intrigues. There's also some twists that MC didn't expect leaving her confused. Spoiler

there's a reincarnator who was a part of ML's harem

Translation is good and the translator had clarify things that are not clear in the form of footnotes. I cut one star out just because I always have an aversion to novels going beyond 200. Just because more chapters tend to drag on and eventually develop unneeded angst. But after running out of things to read and being in my recommendation I decided to give it a try. So far it's worth it. No unneeded angst and MC's IQ and EQ hasn't dropped which I liked. This novel shows promise.
