he decided to cold-bloodedly killed Noa. To this point, it didn't seem the MC was one to kill so brutally so offhandedly so it seemed to be an arbitrary kill just to show of how "brutal and savage" the MC is in an edgelord way. It's especially incongruent given how he just beat up the psychic before who was going to do something absolutely more unforgiveable by dissecting Nancy. I guess maybe the demons on earth are intended to be irredeemably evil but there wasn't enough about Noa to really show if that was the case and the story mentioned earlier that at least some Demons in the other world weren't bad so there seemed a possibility that could be the case with the demons on earth too. It seemed a waste of a character that could show the earth demon perspective. Especially the description of Noa, who is otherwise still a middle school girl begging for her life as she's being killed is absolutely disgusting. I really hate how JP wn/ln writers are obsessed with making MC's either absolutely pathetic and vacillating weaklings or absolute sociopaths. They can't seem to strike a good balance between an MC that can be decisive and make hard decisions but still with empathy and a strong moral core.
[collapse]I guess it's a reflection how WN/LN's are mainly written for and meant to appeal to a young, immature audience so it shouldn't be surprising that writers tend to write such immature characters as well to appeal to an immature audience's desire for cheap gratification of their power and revenge fantasies. It wouldn't be that bad if the story treated his immaturity as that and as something the character should grow from but since it has no interested in actual character development. And that's the other problem with this novel. Characters are completely static and have no actual character development. That wouldn't normally be a problem with comedies and slice of life but it doesn't work if the characters are unlikable as is.And the lack of character development ties in to how the losing heroines are treated in the story. From the spoilers posted in other comments, there seems to be absolute no development there and it seems to be a waste of that part of the premise and just a source of cheap Zama. I honestly dislike these kind of settings where writers seem obsessed with not having any kind of character development or reconciliation, just want the cheap feeling of Zama and unforgiveness.Honestly, the story is a disappointment and the dislike of the characters and how they're handled basically makes me uninterested in any other part of the story. If the story wanted to be mainly a slice-of-life comedy about an isekai hero returning to Earth, it should've focused solely on that and left out the other elements if it wasn't going to actually go anywhere with it.
