This is my first time writing a review on this site and I didn't read this as much as the other reviewers have so take my words with a grain of salt. I'm not going to go in-depth with anything I'm just going to express what I was feeling while reading this. It's boring. Like, I really want to enjoy it but it just feels like nothing happens? There's no drive to the series whatsoever, he wants to build a castle but so far that's basically the closest thing we have to any sort of goal. And like a story doesn't have to have a clear goal in sight but I'd like to see it go in SOME direction. I've never read a story before this where so much happens but it feels like nothing happens. And like they kinda introduce some things when this kingdom gets upity and tries to attack them but its handled in a single chapter. I mean I'm sure more will happen but idk. If I had to state my biggest problem in a single sentence it's that; the story doesn't have a structure. It feels like the author is just writing sh*t as he/she goes along, which is fine if you find it entertaining enough, but unfortunately, I don't so it just feels frustrating.Another thing I was going to complain about was there were no stakes from the beginning but I realized that would be dumb. When someone watches or reads a series with an OP MC they go in not wanting stakes. They want to see a bad a*s f*ck sh*t up with little to no resistance. No one watches one punch man to see a fight with high stakes. They watch it for the execution, how entertaining it is, how satisfying it is to see them mow down everything and see them win. A lot of the times, for me anyway, it's to see the reaction of supporting characters or the enemy they're fighting. But, I feel anyway, that this series fails in that execution. I'm not entertained at all when he's fighting, it just feels edgy, like I'm watching the scene in SOA where Kirito is healing faster than he's taking damage. But even in that scene, it was interesting to see the girl's reaction when she realized how strong he was. But in this series, all the characters are well aware of how strong he is and it's just status quo. It just feels empty, edgy and just not entertaining at all, not satisfying.I like the characters themselves but the interactions with each other are so incredibly painful. It like I'm reading the dialogue from an amateur royal road novel, it's so fake and bad and makes me cringe. I'm sure a large part of this, however, is the way the translators are phrasing things in English. A particular line I recall is "Dayum she cray-cray." and it made me physically ill reading it. The series is FILLED with this kind of dialogue and this is basically how the main character speaks 24/7 and it would be so much better if it wasn't. It's like the d*mn meme commercials put out by corporations or when characters in sitcoms or movies try to use "hip and cool" young people lingo. It's feels clearly written by people who don't actually understand the lingo and they just know the basics of how it's used and thought putting it in would relate to the youths.I thought I could at least get behind the romance as I'm a sucker for cheesy romance but even that just felt boring. Tho I'm sure a lot of that is the dialogue.Anyway, this is just my feelings and keep in mind I only got to chapter 48 so check out some reviews of people who read this for much longer as perhaps it gets better.
