I commented on the somewhat cheesy nature of the phase 2 power up, it felt a little unearned to me. But, he did suggest that blood of the Joestars is exactly what he needed and it even made him stronger which I guess doesn’t run counter intuitive to anything. If Dario was alive in Phantom Blood, I’d wager his blood would have been best to heal Dio. And with Joestar blood completing his body fusion, sure, it all depends on the outcome. If it’s good, I can accept all this.
I had a strong impression that Joseph was in part 4 as a senile grandpa. I’ve seen a picture of him, but then again, only one and maybe it was a hypothetical or something. Either way because of this I came into this fight expecting him to live with certainty. Even when he was being threatened by Dio the first time, I had no fear in my heart. But for his soul to appear just as it did with Abdul and Iggy, Araki can’t go back on that can he? Joseph may be the ultimate trickster but he can’t do that.. Right? It definitely made me teary eyed to see Joseph reflect on their journey and the time they spent together. He’s always been a family man and he and Jotaro bonded these last 50 days.
With some parting words, Joseph was drained dry. Which makes me concerned because that is how Dio made zombies in Phantom Blood if I recall correctly but with how Dio is lacking a lot of his vampire powers, I wouldn’t be surprised if that didn’t occur. And yeah, souls are a thing now. As far as I know they never came up before this and it suits Stardust Crusaders to have a quick and meaningful farewell with the allies who die so quickly and brutally to keep the story going. That said, we didn’t get an official Joseph died panel and for such a huge character, I’d expect one. Assuming he is down, the last who remain are Jotaro and Polnareff.
