We can see the purpose of the training that Sakaki wants Kenichi to learn with the light bulbs.  Somehow it allows an unarmed fighter to manage against a weapon user.

Whatever happened to Shigure, I thought she was there also ._. The first few pages were funny when Kagerou was hugging Kenichi's leg for his sword back.
