I brought up how the D’arby brothers fit with the importance of family and blood in Jojo and this chapter illustrated that again. To contrast with Enya and J.Geil as mother and son, Enya wanting to avenge her son, and further, Oingo and Boingo with Boingo wanting to avenge his brother, D’arby junior didn’t care to avenge D’arby senior. And rather than Enya who admired her son J.Geil as honorable despite that being far from the truth, or Oingo being glad to see Boingo overcoming his shyness and trying to take care of him, D’arby junior broke D’arby senior’s ribs and kicked him until he puked. Meanwhile, Jotaro would allow Steely Dan to walk all over him to keep his grandpa safe, and as my very smart friend mentioned, Dio using Jonathan’s body means that the battle against him will also follow this theme. Joestar blood is in Dio’s veins so Joseph is basically fighting his grandpa. I don’t have a broad point to make here, but I do find the familiar ties we keep finding notable.
D’arby junior, as scary as he is, can apparently read thoughts. It makes me wonder if he’s doing what a certain character in Kaiji does and, by attaching to Jotaro’s soul in a small way, he’s doing the equivalent of reading his soul-heartbeat or something. That could be an extension of the soul stealing ability which pertains to why he is capable of this. However, I wasn’t convinced that anything was truly going on until he predicted Jotaro’s test by throwing the ball directly at the hitter. The previous tricks he did were things my friends have done to me in video games, by exclaiming what they will do and making you overthink what that means.
