I still think it’s obvious Kakyoin can’t win without a stipulation which continues the game afterwards if we’re talking about formula and expectation. But, I did expect Kakyoin to come back into the party and remind us to be grateful that he’s back, playing a huge role in the upcoming battle.
This chapter I started to believe in Kakyoin! Because over the racing/video game sports anime we were witnessing, suited to that were the characters internal monologues. Kakyoin gave us a far greater look into his motivation as a character and his meeting with Dio. He was scared to death by Dio and like Dio uses fear to control as we’ve seen ourselves, he won Kakyoin over. The fear of Kakyoin turned to gratefulness that he wasn’t going to die and he kneeled to lord Dio. I love this kind of coercion we see in Dio, he may not win out of a typical charisma which makes men truly, unconditionally loyal to him, but his fear does in a sense emulate it. Disgusted with himself, he was given another chance by the courage and self-sacrifice of Jotaro, and that won him over with true charisma and with it, loyalty! He decided to redeem himself and he grew more courageous, able to face his fears, thus this journey will show us how far he’s come. He's a quiet character so we didn't know his internal conflict until now, all I knew was that he was taken over and fought due to gratefulness and justice. Now... well, you can do it Kakyoin!
The damage to his power bar meant that the fight over the speed tunnel looked unwinnable to Kakyoin but using his skill, he entered it by driving on the wall of the tunnel. It gave me Initial D vibes and made me want to watch it again.
