I was just hoping that Gil turned out to be transmigrated too as an explanation for why he was able to stop every danger early and fell for Rei, like maybe he was someone from Rei's past life who was in love with him, but nope. It's not really explained beyond the existence of Transmigrator Rei, even though he didn't remember his past life until right before the original story is supposed to start.

Idk, it would make more sense if he got his memories back when they were children for his behavior to dramatically change but really he's always behaved the same. I guess the main point is that it's a different soul so his behavior was just different overall from the original even before he knew.
