This was brilliant stuff. I am absolutely satisfied and I had a blast reading this arc. It was like the epitome of what Stardust Crusaders can do so far. J. Geil may have been a smart abomination, and he and Hol Horse may represent villains as the narrative role of an antagonist rather than something personal, just as Kakyoin called J. Geil rotten to the core. We could totally read into him, his disfigured state and a hard life putting him into a desire to force those who never accepted him to submit to him. But, that’s besides the point!! The emotional highs, the creative and strategic fighting, the bonding of the brothers involved and the payoff of this rule of cool finish was all I could ask for from this series. Abdul may be dead, but we can still have a good time putting his soul to rest.
J. Geil wasn’t a total joke, he was smart, even outside of his powerful stand, he got a dummy to play the part of him and got a sneak attack in. He drew in as many people as possible to remove the weakness of his stand, that of having one straight path and no chance to maneuver outside of it. But that wasn’t enough, first we got Kakyoin learning from big bro Polnareff with that badass speech.
Polnareff, that’s not what you say here. When avenging someone, you don't say lame things such as “you son of a bitch”... Instead you say this… My name is Noriaki Kakyoin! For the vengeance of my friend, Abdul, and so that the sister of my friend, Polnareff, may rest in peace… You will pay with your life!
Talk about badass. This is a true fight of teamwork. Kakyoin tossed a coin, drew everyone's attention to one spot, and made sure to give Polnareff the final blow, punishing the weakness of such an overpowered stand with J. Geil’s life. That is, only after making sure to punish him in classical power fantasy fashion and giving a second one liner payoff, stating that J. Geil’s screams will bring Polnareff pleasure just as his sisters did for him.
It seems Hol Horse will not be dealt with in these chapters named after him. It makes me think the Empress will team up with him next, as that was the initial assumption when you get two stand names like that. Regardless, I did want to bring up the amount of influence I can see from Stardust Crusaders. Firstly, the light fruit in One Piece has a very similar set up to the Hanging Man, a being of light which travels insanely fast and cannot be seen but has the weakness of being stuck in one line. The Emperor on the other hand plays with the shounen trope of having projectiles follow the opponent until they hit them, while not directly that, Sniper from Yuyu Hakusho, and Vander Decken from One Piece definitely come to mind as doing so.
@Rei_III My translation used "your screams are like music to my ears, J. Geil. Now I will send you to hell, sobbing the entire way there. But, there's something I need to do first, something hell can't do for me... I'M GONNA TURN YOU INTO A PINCUSHION!" In my post, I had translated the earlier time J.Geil said 'her cries were like music to my ears' and Polnareff stating the same for him to 'pleasure'.
