Heya, this is the translator here~ To preface, this novel would probably be a bit polarizing to NU readers here who have certain preferences (though funnily enough it's mostly liked by Korean readers), so take this review as sort of a caution so that the book finds the right audience. After all, I wouldn't want to make anyone read something that they don't like.

To summarize the plot simply, a quaint island city lies in the fantastical setting in which our protagonists live. Our MC has supernatural powers unbeknownst to others and needs to eat a certain flower to survive. While looking for the flowers, he rans into ML, a pirate and overlord of the town, who is in search of MC's kind of people. MC manages to lie out of his initial situation but ML's suspicions are unrelenting.

As I've warned in the first chapter, the ML is a jerk. He's ruthless and violent, though I would argue looking at it in the perspective of the setting, it would make sense as he is a pirate. In any case, he does unfortunately hurt MC, who tries to stand his ground but still understandably afraid of him. Meanwhile, MC is the pure-hearted and kind type. Although he is not the textbook "strong" character and is scared of ML, he's rather positive despite his hardships and does sufficiently well for himself, and always speaks up to ML. And for the record, he actually can be very strong through his superpowers, just that he doesn't really use them!

So why am I giving it a 5 star? Well, I am really enjoying the story so far, the fresh and unique setting and premise is quite different from other novels and appealing to my tastes, so I'm excited to see where this is going. Also, come on, who can say no to that cover by God Jinsa-nim? And while I love sweet romances with kind and perfect and doting love interests as much as the next person, I'm also a believer of second chances and character development. While the ML is an a**hole, I would not say he isn't redeemable. So far, he's the type that treats others as he likes and then afterwards be like 'wait why do I feel so nasty?' There's something fun (ny) about watching an idiot being enlightened of his idiotic ways, regretting and being down bad. We haven't gotten to that point yet but fingers crossed.

The novel is still very new, so I can't comment much at this point, but I'm looking forward to both the plot and character development!

Update/edit: So far, there's no regret per se but I definitely see a subtle change in ML, and it's apparent he likes MC and is sweet to him in his own way. It might be hard to imagine them together in the beginning but the more I read, the more I think they suit each other well.
