Totally agree with new cultivat and cactiii. The novel is for a very specific audience, not everyone enjoys this sort of story, just as some don't like plain-old soup or can't handle misunderstandings in their novels (me). If depression is not for you, totally understandable. This novel brings you down to the abyss and makes you hope for a happy ending. This novel gave me similar emotions to The Main Heroines Are Trying To Kill Me. I will get into some spoilers for both of them (I finished neither yet.) Spoiler
Although emotions I experienced and direction of the stories (of the heroines in particular) are rather similar, they have a fatal difference. Where one shows a light of hope, another doesn't. There is no happy ending for this one. Because if there will be, it'll be so forced that that the whole experience beforehand would be null.
[collapse]If you like to suffer, give it a try. Its more than decent enough. 8/10
