I agree with most of the 3 star reviews. The only thing I'll add is the reason why you may find this cliche or not your taste or something you might drop is because the writing is kinda bad? Not bad but unpolished and not detailed. Telling over showing writing for sure: many events are given 3 paragraphs, skimmed over, or if they are important enough to be given detail, it's very minimal. This author I think doesn't know how to write dialogue so doesn't do it very often. There's also some high level of confusion over his age. At one point, I thought it said he was 20 but he also has already done 4 yrs of university?? Then it's said he's 19...? The writing is not clear. I think it has the structure of a fluffy entertainment novel and that's all you should expect from it. For that reason, it's boring to read bc the writing doesn't flesh anything out. Only decent if you like that kind of thing. But like me, you might find yourself mid-through thinking, "hmm I think I could read something else instead" bc I don't want to waste my time on mediocre writing.
