finished the whole thing and I have to agree with xiaoliang's review. It just gets tiring after a while. Im fine with her husband getting the credit because at some point it's acknowledged that her husband and their industries would be nothing without her, she's just lowkey about it. I think it has a lot to do with modesty culture, especially since she grew up as an ancient young lady who was taught to be subservient and modest. But when she has to acknowledge her impact, she does. She just really dgaf. People could say that she's being treated like a doormat and honestly, she kinda is, but idk she just isnt confrontational (?) objectively though, there's to much build up for very little/badly executed confrontation which, I get, pisses readers off.

anyways, if a woman wants to present herself as a loving housewife then let her. Both her and her husband acknowledge her (superior) contributions to their industries anyway.

so those are the things I can get past, what really got me was the thought that if a woman couldn't find a good husband she'd succumb to prostitution? That was insane and a great leap of whatever logic. Spoiler

i didn't like that that's how ji yunyun and other inamous women of their village ended up as. Especially for ji yunyun like she's lived a whole other life I really really dont think she'd succumb to a life of prostitution the second time around. She could have rode so many rising industries with her knowledge and capabilities. I'm not convinced.

[collapse]

all in all, it's a 2.2/5. I appreciate the portrayal of a rural life but all the other aspects + the misogyny kinda killed the vibe.

(note: really messy review I just read an mtled novel irdc about grammar and stuff rn)
