I know right?! I guess it was supposed to be what it was in imperial harem. It is just a matter how a woman can attract the Emperor and make herself not losing favour.
As far as i know there is only one monogamous Emperor in China history. But too bad his empress is not best for him. 

So I haven't finished this "arc/mystery" yet from where I'm reading/translating, but from what I can gather:
Spoiler: spoilerThe empress dowager was snooping around in Taoyu Pavilion because she was trying a) either trying to find something she had buried there in the past, or b) trying to meet someone that wanted a trade? That palace maid Jintao accidentally heard and saw it, and since the empress dowager caught her, she had Jintao killed. As for who tried to have Jinguo (Jintao's sister) hung on ZL's tree to frame ZL, I'm not at that part yet. I don't think it was the empress dowager, since she has the power to punish ZL openly. But all this excitement at the peach forest gives the emperor the chance to search through it... and he finds something. 

Don't say it even by imagining my non-existable balls hurt and I have a heart attack on my kidney

I cant help but like stories with this kind of realistic plot line. 

Part of that is because this story was written before the other two. The ML never giving up his other women all the way through the story also made it really controversial with the readers at the time it was written, which I suppose made it stand out more and gain more readership. In many ways, I feel that TBAVW was written as a response to all the flames the author got for this story.
