I'm not a Berserk fan but this was a solid chapter and one of my favorites in a while from this manga. Plus, the double-page spreads here looked fantastic too so visually as well one of the best in a while that Miura's drawn. The ending of it was dope too and a nice way to act as a cliffhanger for the future chapter.

"I'm not a Berserk fan"

362 chapters into the manga....Wat?

were some of them different god hands or has it just been a while?

All of them were different except Void, so it's safe to assume those were replaced by Void, perhaps they died? yh that sounds about right

I assumed it was Void who did the sacrificing to become a member of the god hand.

I dunno, wasn't there some condition that the person/people sacrificed to create a Godhand had to be someone important to the person they are being sacrificed for? Otherwise the sacrifice has no significance. I seem to remember that, at the very beginning of the Black Swordsman arc (before the flashback to Golden Age), there was some nobleman with a behelit who had the chance to become a Godhand if he sacrificed his daughter, and he couldn't do it. The way Gaiseric is holding the dying woman suggests a lovers' relationship, which makes me think he sacrificed her to gain power (I also seem to remember that one of the few things we know about Gaiseric is that he was the Alexander the Great of his day, constantly lusting after power and more worlds to conquer) and then immediately regretted it afterwards. It would certainly explain his immortality and knowledge of the Godhand.

Perhaps Zodd was also involved in this event. It's pretty clear that Zodd and Gaiseric have some kind of relationship stemming back to when they were both human, and I always suspected it was a Godhand/Eclipse event that caused the split between them.

I actually wondered if the sacrificed woman was Flora, Schielke's late mentor. If Gaiseric managed to save her from becoming a sacrifice, it would explain why she knew about the brand and how to hide it from bad spirits, and her long-standing relationship with Skull Knight.

One thing is clear, though: I have a lot of re-reading to do. :p

Maybe the woman in Gaiseric's arms was someone important to Void as well? Just how Casca was to Griffith? But I guess we dont know the details yet to be fully sure of what happened.

From what I remember from the Black Swordsman Arc, the Count (nobleman) would have been given another chance at life (as an apostle ofc) by the God Hand if he sacrificed his daughter. Besides, becoming a member of the God Hand requires a Crimson Behelit (not a normal one), probably a huge massacre (like the Eclipse), and only happens once every 216 years.

I dont think Gaiseric sacrificed the woman because he himself seemed to be dying when he was holding onto her. His eyes were closing and when Schierke was trying to remove the armor from Guts, Gaiseric's eyes seemed to have "dimmed out" in the armor. It has been said before that the previous owner of the Berserker Armor fought until it bled them of every last drop of blood.

I may be wrong but I think it was mentioned at some point that the armor SK is wearing now is keeping him "alive".

I think it was said that Zodd was feared in the battlefield for about 300 years. I think Zodd just has a history with SK (not when he was Gaiseric). Though it might be possible if apostles existed 1000 years ago. He also calls SK an "old friend", so who knows¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

.

I dont think Flora was the sacrificed woman. I think Flora's relationship with SK is like Schierke's relationship with Guts. In Volume 28 Proclaimed Omens, SK himself says it to Schierke and Guts - "We were friends. Exactly like the two of you now.".

But Flora was definitely there during that time because in the same chapter, SK says - "Indeed. That armor is something I once wore. In the distant past...when we (SK and Flora) lived within the reason of time.".

Also, in the same chapter, Schierke says - "She (Flora) claimed the Berserker Armor was a very dangerous fetish and prudently applied a seal to it...yet she always gazed upon it somewhat longingly.". I think that Flora helped out Gaiseric with the armor just how Schierke is helping out Guts with the armor.

I've currently read 6 chapters. Is this manga monthly? Has it just returned from a haitus?

Btw, to those who think that woman could be Slan, she had a sacrifice mark on her shoulder, so that can't be true. A sacrifice cannot become God Hand if I remember correctly!

This chapter, in the pannels we see Skull Knight past where his lover dies, the Skull Night vision starts to go blurry  and Guts in real life goes quiet. Schierke quickly moves to help Guts cause she knew something was up in that momment and helps him. Guts after recovering his mind says "That right now...was for sure...the end-" and Skull Knight answers "what you bore witness to was the end of a foolish king, and the beginning of a dead man stalking the endless night".

My guess with all this said is that,  Skull Knight also experienced the Eclipse(This case was Void's eclipse as we was centered) and had his lover killed, he then goes berserker mode and the armor completely consumes him, thats why the vision Guts had from Skull Knight past was starting to going blurry. The rage together with the armor consumed him  and so it went all black. In consequence, Skull Knight ended killing 4 God Hand members and lost all his humanity, that's why he is no longer human but rather a "skull monster"(When Gut's said he saw the end maybe that's what he was refering to). Void was the only one left, maybe because what Void was to Skull Knight, Griffith is to Guts. I don't remember if Void and Skull Knight had any interactions but with this chapter it looks like they are related somehow.

Not the best explanation but yeah, i guess it all makes sense
