That's the kind of moment I wanted and that I feel she deserved. We'd waited too long for her return to see her showing off her skills by sparring with dummies. Compared to what I described (and expected) her fight in this chapter felt cheap and hollow. It should've been such an important moment for her, for the story and for us, but it had absolutey zero emotional weight behind it. That's my point.
Well, to each their own. :) What happened was honestly exactly what I expected and what I thought would be best for Casca right now. Not only does she need loads of recovery (thanks Griffith!), in a way she is only just introducing herself to a group of strangers and feeling her way back to her old self. Why should she go and isolate herself to train? Just so she can surprise them later? Again, in a realistic fight, that's silly. When you go into battle, you want to know that the person next to you knows what they're doing and you can trust them to have your back, and not accidentally hit you in a panic. Having to fight while protecting someone else is much harder than just fighting on your own, and if Isidro or Serpico didn't know Casca is actually really skilled and felt they had to keep an eye on her, it would put them at a huge disadvantage. Instead, she has won instant respect and is no longer at the bottom of the hierarchy of the group. There will be plenty of real battles for her to fight later, it's not like this is the only time she might get to wield a sword. Miura certainly owes her, but as I've speculated here before, if what I think will happen happens, it will be far more satisfying and glorious for her.
Besides, training by yourself and training with opponents are two very different things. If you really want to know if you're good, you spar with someone else. Anyone can beat up a stationary dummy that's not attacking you. But sparring with another person - as Isidro asked Casca to do - is both a bonding activity AND a way to improve your skills. There is zero practical reason for Casca to withhold all that from herself and her new comrades for the sake of waiting for a high stakes battle to show off. Even from us viewers' perspective, all it does it create unnecessary suspense, since I'm pretty sure the great majority of Berserk fans only wanted to know two things: 1) does Casca still love Guts, and 2) is she still as strong as she used to be. I'm pretty sure people would have rioted outside Miura's house if he made them wait even longer to find out the answers, haha.
