Berserk Chapter 299 Discussion

  • #2
Woot!  Binktopia has released a translated copy.  It looks like Sonia is about to give some sort of telepathic speech to calm the masses after they have started to doubt Griffith upon seeing the demonic nature of his new Band of the Hawk.  14 Days... Only 14 Days and we will see what she's got to say.   =)

But yeah, Berserk chapters haven't come out this quick in awhile. Hopefully we will be able to see Guts again soon. I wonder what he would be doing if he was at the battle field right now.

How will Gatts kill Griffith? T_T

The most plausible scenario, assuming the Guts will emerge successful in his quest to slay Griffith/Femto, is the Behelit. The Behelit could be the key for Guts to gain the strength to at least scratch Griffith. I just can't imagine Guts gaining a power-up in Elfhelm and come back to Midland, strong enough to rival a Godhand. =

I don't think he really needs a "power up"... If he ever gave in to the feral beast within we really don't know what kind of strength he'd gain.

Also, I think an even more awesome twist would be to have Caska use the Behelit at some point.

That does sound plausible, but can Guts' body take that much damage? the Berserker Armor already messes him up so much, but if you add the feral beast to that equation, I don't think he would last long at all.

on a related note though, the Skull Knight mentioned that he donned the Berserker armor, long, long ago. I've been wondering if the Berserk Armor was the reason why the SK is the way he is (a seemingly immortal badass, fighting Zodd on equal grounds and chowing down on Behelits).

Well that's kinda the point.  The only way I see him taking out Griffith is by sacrificing his life.  However, if he used the Behelit he'd be sacrificing his humanity and I can't see Guts doing that since the "human vs demon" theme has been such a central part of the story.  So if the armor kills him in the process or turns him into skull knight v2.0 then that's just the price he's got to pay.

THIS IS AN MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.

                ----------------------------------------

Half the pages of 299 is already out. D:

Seems like the Apostles are having no problem plowing through the hordes of Mini-Ganishka's. Grunbeld and Zodd in particular are on a killing spree.

Next chapter will be on November 28. BANZAI!!!

lulz. that must have been a cake walk for the translator of this chapter with the small number of speech bubbles. =|

It was awesome to see 3 of the stronger Apostles unleash hell on the mini-Ganishka's, though I'm kinda bummed that Irvine isn't joining in the fun. We've yet to see his Apostle form.

Tsk now I'm even more confused about Sonia!!! WTF is she???

Sonia is the medium of the Hawks. Basically, she reads the flow of battle for Griffith from afar, and relays her observations to the Hawks. She can also read the minds of people. Though it hasn't been explained as to why she has that ability or how she obtained it.

Ummm more in a way... What the hell is she doing there and why isn't she scared of Demon army, by the looks of it she can see even to the future but still she is staying with band of the Hawks???

You're right. I can't remember if she displayed fear or signs of it, ever since her character was introduced. This could be attributed to her devotion to Griffith (or fanaticism possibly) that she doesn't even flinch at the sight of Apostles killing each other. Seems like that she fears nothing as long as she is beside Griffith.

I bet she'd fear Guts in berserker mode :D
