Berserk Chapter 63 Discussion

still not a fan of sex scene, but at least now it feels more right, more meaningful

the experience made guts remember a bad part of his childhood, and now casca's attitude made him remember a better part of it

both opening themselves to eachother, being vulnerable and finding consolation... that was beautiful

It actually makes so much sense why Guts had that flashback now. Thanks to his traumatic past, all sex ever was to him previously was an act of dominance and power, maybe even a little bit of lust, but never an act of love. With how he was man-handling Casca in the previous chapter, there's no doubt Guts was remembering how it played out last time he had that kind of experience. Instead it really came down to Casca to finally show Guts the side of sex that can actually be considered love-making and not just "fucking" for a lack of a better term. Thanks to Casca, Guts can now finally create a positive memory of the act to help erase or cancel-out some of the trauma from his past. What a woman!

I don't think I've ever seen an anime or read a manga that handled a sex scene this maturely before, but it's just perfect!

Fanservice? Dont compare this to some other generic fanservice sh*t. Ur reading a seinen which is why such scenes are completely understandable and more importantly Realistic. U didnt quite understand the symbolism about wounds in relation to sex either which makes u feel this is just some "skippable fanservice". Sad really

Couldnt agree more. His review was so close minded.

But moving on.

I felt so bad for guts :/ his pain over gambino is intense

Guts became vulnerable with another person for the first time in a long time.

I think this is something truly beautiful. Casca is an amazing woman, she understood what Guts was going through and made him feel at ease.

This situation could have gone horribly wrong but Casca made the situation turn out for the better.

We all carry our own baggage. In times when we are most vulnerable, that baggage can come spilling out. In this case, Guts traumatizing past came back to haunt him when he was most vulnerable. But Casca was able to bring him back to reality and remind him of the man he really is.

What an incredible chapter. The way Miura handled this situation was really superb.
