Why even implement the power of imagination when you can't think of a way to overpower it without being detrimental to the plot.
How is that a plot hole? Yeah, he made a mistake that led to his demise, that's the point. And it's only logical that his ability to imagine things would have limits. Otherwise he would basically be a god.
