GetBackers Chapter 76 Discussion

                        Pretty strong chapter, I really like the reveal that Ban didn't use the Jagan eye, meaning that Makubex calculations, or the Babylon City archive was inaccurate, but it also makes Ban look all the more impressive for pulling that trick off. It's also another satisfying way to pay off the illusions trick, the Jagan is a narrative device that seems like it could get bogged down in the repetition, and the anime it did with all the extra stand-alone, but here, not so much. This was another clever way to subvert the formula of the Jagan, it's been used in different clever ways thus far.



I'm also a fan of the dynamics, the reactions to Akabane revealing his helped Makubex and is now back to focusing on stopping him, Ginji welcoming him aboard then backing away, Ginji starting to pick up on it but Akabane bailing Ban out. And I like Shido saving Ban here and Fudou's appearance was great, just the sudden visual menace when Ban's at his most vulnerable was greatly drawn.
