After what must've been 5 years, I decided to pick up Hikaru no Go again and finally go through with it!
I'm surprised that the chapter discussions for this manga only seemed to cover the very beginning and final few chapters. (So if anyone bothers to discuss this almost 20 year old manga instead of simply watching the anime, you will probably have to bear with me for the next 100 or so chapters ( ͡ᵔ ͜ʖ ͡ᵔ )
This is irrelevant to this chapter but my interest in this series has always been due to Takeshi Obata's gorgeous art evolution that takes place over the course of Hikaru no Go (going from generic shonen to highly stylized modern fashionable realism).
Death Note, Blue Dragon and Bakuman have long since ended and aside from the one shots and Gakkyu Hotel, he stepped up his art game even further in Platinum End. Making it even more fascinating to see his "early" work in Hikaru no Go and deduce which characteristics of his style have constantly stayed the same throughout his career.

I enjoy this Tetsuo Kaga character and hope that he becomes part of the main cast.
I found the flashback insightful when it comes to understanding both Akira and him better and could sympathize with him being hurt and frustrated after realizing that Akira understandably didn't acknowledge him as an equal.
The comparison might seem a little off but I had to think of Slam Dunk and the gradual introduction of the aces with their backstories revealed, character archetypes reversed.
I guess with Hikaru and Sai being Sakuragi Hanamichi together, Tetsuo would most likely be closest to Mitsui.
Akira would likely fill in Rukawa's position as the talented ace rival, although his personality is more akin to Akagi or Kogure.
I could very well see Tetsuo resembling Mitsui in his redemption arc, forgoing his rebellious punk attitude for a rare moment of honesty & vulnerability, admitting that he yearns to play Go after all and wants to become part of the team again...
Well we'll see if it'll be similar to Slam Dunk soon!
