Death Note Chapter 47 Discussion

Rem is a girl?! But in the last volume Light referred to Rem as a guy.... So confused.

She can break as many rules as she wants as long as she doesn't extend someone's life, for whom they have feelings for, by writing someone's name on the death note. So she shouldn't have died.

The manga is confusing because they refer to Rem as "him" but in the anime it is stated that Rem is a female.

Rem's gender isn't really confusing (and also it doesn't matter). People just called Rem "him" because it's pretty damn hard to tell what she's supposed to be, being a monstrous god of death and all. And she simply didn't bother to correct Light. But she felt it was important for Misa to know, because she's the one most important to Rem. That's how I see it anyway. I often get called "miss" on the phone at work, because I have a very high-pitched voice, and I don't bother to correct anyone unless they specifically ask again.



That said, the last couple volumes really show what the manga does better than the anime! For quite a while they were pretty much exactly the same, but the Yotsuba arc profits from some more in-depth explanations, especially of everyone's thoughts. It really helps the story as a whole. And the art is of course fantastic! I swear, somehow manga-Misa looks cuter than the anime counterpart at times.



Can't wait to see the solution, even if I already now it from the anime.

It's so interesting to see this character development for Light. Seeing himself slowly acknowledge that his ideals resemble Kira's in a way is pretty nice. And it's also unfortunate that he'll turn into that monster again when his plan works.



Also, I didn't know Rem was female... Makes sense, actually.

Personally i didn't like the exposition dump in this chapter. It wasn't something that said something new, it was a recap of everything to this point and reafirm that Light has a plan.

I have watched the anime and I know who Kira is, I think I made a bad choice reading the Death Note manga AFTER watching the anime.

                        I am definitely surprised that Rem is a female.  That is interesting.  I am excited to see who Kira is.
