Good flashback chapter with their initial motivation to learn alchemy, their desperate plan after their mother's death, the first meeting with Izumi and the start of her island challenge. That masked man seems to mean business, tough break for the boys!

ah yes, the great: "abandon young children on a wild island training method" Izumi really knows how to build good character in a protagonist.

                        Despite the shitty translation I had to deal with on this it was still a very strong volume. I loved the scene where Winry helped the woman give birth and the introduction of the Elric's "master" Izumi.

I don't remember 2003 anime version of this, but I prefer the continuity of this with a bit more of Izumi.

Weird that there's this random monster attacking them in the manga though... he doesn't exist in Brotherhood.

Okay so we got a backstory chapter and volume 6 is probably backstory too! I love that, we can finally learn something about Erlic brothers and what exactly happend!



"One is all, all is one." I wonder what that means!

It'll all come out, now. Argh! These cliffhangers!

Lol guessing that is the butcher dude ... Kind of mean playing a trick like that on the kids.

Another decent chapter. I wonder what the villains could be doing at this point?
