Maybe because it's been on hiatus for so long but I'm confused as hell. What does "Komugi 2" mean and why was that ant crying? Did Welfin really know the secret that the other ant was lying about? And who is this king Gyro that Welfin speaks of?

@JadedLover: clearly we have different opinions about this arc ... de gustibus ...

Yet from this post of yours I could understand only that you don't like it, and not exactly why. What do you mean by "it strayed too far from what it was in the beginning"?My English skills are sadly lacking but I will try to explain this as best as I can. It has also been many years now since I started reading HxH so to try to recall and explain those feelings might prove difficult as well, but like I said, I'll do my best.

When I first started reading it, it seemed to have a much more lighthearted fun feel to it: Gon on his quest to become a Hunter and find his father along with his companion Killua who was out to just be a kid and have fun away from the Zaoldyecks. Both on a quest to become better Hunters/nen users. While still having their rivals/bad guys, it maintained a fun adventurous atmosphere. This arc, to me, just seems to have a dark, 'we must save the world'  feeling. It's not the lighthearted fun that it previously was to me.

Nen battles are always nen battles, and I don't think they have lost their wit. The best fight might still be Hisoka vs Kastro (that is TO ME: priceless narration), but I think this arc has had its worthy matches.

Yes this arc has had its worthy matches. In fact, in my opinion, I think the fights in this arc are far superior to any in the previous arcs.

Regarding the absence of Kurapika, Leorio, Hisoka, or the Spider ... I didn't miss them, didn't miss them at all. Greed Island showed that Leorio and Kurapika were not in the main characters count, I didn't miss both of them at all back then. And as for the others, I think that one of the merits of Togashy in HxH is that he created an insanely wide world for his characters to move in: it would have been way more strange if Gon and Killua had sticked to the same persons everywhere they had gone, than that they had kept on meeting new people! Also, variety of new characters is a great asset, to me! (and I was happy that we were given the opportunity to see Netero's fighting skills in action! )Personally, I could do without Leorio as well. As far as Kurapica is concerned though, prior to Greed Island  he seemed to play a major part in the story: His quest for revenge against the spiders. I do agree that it would be strange if Gon and Killua had stuck to the same people everywhere, but I don't like that Kurapica and his revenge has been dropped out of the story line for as long as it has. Maybe without all of the hiatuses it wouldn't seem as long, but since there have been several that have lasted for extended periods of time, it just seems to be forever. As far as Netero is concerned, I too enjoyed watching him in action and am glad for the chance to see him fight. I wish he hadn't been killed off but, oh well.

Finally, bitching about the author trying to build up suspense by postponing the chapter in which he will show what happened of the two main chara: we didn't say that you can't do it, we just say that you can't help it. It's a narrative choise ...I'm fully aware that Togashi is trying to build the suspense and didn't think I was bitching about the lack of Gon and Killua. I did agree that yes I want to see them, but fully understand why they haven't been shown yet. The point I was trying to make in my above post was that not everyone dislikes this based on the lack of Killua and Gon or their appearance in this, as well as the action or lack thereof. I think the darkness in this arc is needed for Gon and Killua to both mature as individuals (mostly Gon), but that doesn't mean I have to like the whole 'we must save the world' idea.

Again, from this latter arc I regret only the arts, the hiatus, and perhaps gon's power up. (to dragonball-esque, in a manga so different from dragon ball)Some of the art in this arc has been phenomenal imo, but sadly, not the majority of it. I think we could all do without the hiatuses, but given Togashi's said reasons I can understand them. As far as Gon's power-up, I think that could be a whole other thread of discussion.

What I have liked about this arc is most recently in the comparison of animals to humans, and how the king found worth and strength in someone as weak as Komugi making him rethink the whole survival of the fittest type attitude, while at the same time making humans seem like animals.

To be absolutely honest, I don't think I liked the whole chimera ant idea (and I can't give an actual reason as to why, just that I don't) from the very beginning. And maybe it's the length of this arc, combined with the hiatuses, that have just made it seem to drag on for me. I'm just ready for it to be over. And who knows, once it's over and I reread it from the beginning, I might change my opinion of it. I don't think so, but it's always possible.

We all have our opinions which are subjective, and as you so eloquently put in Latin, one must not dispute about taste. :)

tl;dr It's not as lighthearted. adventurous and fun as it use to be and I don't like the whole 'we must save the world' idea.
