Besides the hiatus this arc is just great. People just miss seeing Gon and Killua every five minutes. This is like psychological warfare. This manga has never been about action every five seconds.

You're right in the fact that this manga has never been about a ton of action. That's not why I read this to begin with. As for this arc being  great, that's your opinion. I don't share it. I haven't liked it since near the beginning. Lack of action doesn't play a part of not liking it. It's just strayed too far from what it was in the beginning all the way through the Greed Island arc imo. As for missing Gon and Killua, I don't need to see them every five minutes either. There are several other characters I'd enjoy just as well. Hisoka, Kurapica, and Leorio just to name a few. After a hiatus of more than a year though, yes, I want to see those two, especially given the cliffhanger with Gon and his change and ripped off arm.  Now figure how long it's been since we've seen the other characters who were once a major part of this manga. If I remember correctly, we haven't seen Leorio or Kurapica since before the Greed Island arc. So I'm going to guess and say that it's been at least 5 years. Probably longer. My whole point I guess is that I think it's a rather ignorant assumption on your part that some of us don't like this just based on the lack of Gon/Killua and/or lack of action.

Agreed about the "dark "we gotta save the world" feeling" of this arc ,which actually strays it from the previous ones. Not that I didn't like it, but I can understand that some may disagree.

As for Kurapika, if he is not fighting the phantom brigade he is of no use, would only be a hindrance and/or get himself killed in combat. It's better that he did not appear in this last arc, it would have been worse if he had ... we'll probably just have to wait for his comeback!

(the point might be that Togashi could have written a different arc, but that's off the topic whether this arc was good or not)

I think it's not the hiatuses, this arc IS long, definitely; but at the end of York Shin arc it was clear that it would have taken quite the time for Kurapika's revenge to come back in act. I guess even if this arc hadn't been about chimera ants, it wouldn't have been time for Kurapika yet! ^^

Agreed again about strong points of this arc, fights, Netero and some other things!

It's true that one must not dispute about taste, but is nice when people can exchange their views about a topic they care about! =)

Oh, and would you please be so kind as to tell me those reasons for the hiatuses? I couldn't find any, so I started thinking badly of the author ...

P.s.: if YOU have to worry about your English skills lacking anything, I just better go kill my self! ^^" Let's just hope both of us manage to get his meaning through! Btw, you pass!

Thanks. :)

I agree that it's better that Kurapica didn't appear in this arc, but not for the fact that he would be a hindrance. He has other strengths, not just the one used to deal with the Spiders, but he has an entirely different agenda: Getting the eyes back and his revenge. So for him to take part in this wouldn't further his story line or make sense.

Yes this arc is long. 126 chapters so far (yes I went back and counted). Nearing close to half the manga. But I think what is making it drag for me is the combination of the length and the hiatuses. This would only be a little over 2 years if it was published weekly, but has been close to 4-5 (just guessing here) because of the hiatuses.

I think another strong point to this arc is the development of the characters. There were so many new ones introduced, yet Togashi took the time to develop each and every one.

Agreed once again. It's nice when people can exchange opinions on something as subjective as this without the I'm right and you're wrong attitude. :)

As soon as I find the link for the reasons I'll post it on your profile.

Thanks, and please don't kill yourself! LOL You pass too! :-)

Totally loved this chapter... even though i HAD to read again the chapters from the assault to the king's palace in order to remember what had happened before this last hiatus and understand what was going on now!

Before and during his fight with Neteru, the King (thanks to Komugi) was getting more and more similar to a human, forgetting his ant nature. This was an inescapable step of chimera ants' evolution, a necessary choice between humanity and their ant/beast identity.

When his memory was erased by the explosion, the King had forgotten the way he had chosen, and was starting to behave again in a beast-like manner.

Poufu had always wanted the King to be inhuman and against humans, and thus decided to prevent him from remembering of his previous choice, even at the cost of his own very life. How? Preventing him from remembering about Komugi, the very first human being that taught him that even though weak, human beings can be important. About Komugi, the woman the King loved. (even though it was explicitly said only in this last chapter)

That's why Poufu rushed back in order to kill Komugi and obliterate the thinnest trace of her existence and, when he realized he wasn't making it, he proposed this challenge to the King, in order to slow him down at finding evidence about Poufu's secret, Komugi.

This way, Poufu had almost succeeded at having Werefin killed by the King before he could talk about Komougi : Poufu said that Werefin could not answer the King's question because otherwise he would have revealed the secret, thus invalidating their challenge.

Was it luck or not, Werefin's supposed-to-be last word was chosen wisely: her name was enough to awaken Meruem's love towards her, and to remind the king of his ultimate choise: being no more ant, but a human being, respectful to life and weakness.

Poufu's life, which he was ready to sacrifice, was saved, but his wish was crushed.

Now he will probably try to get his love back, and then die because of the rose's curse. Though he now is one of the good. A tremendously strong one of the good. =)

I didn't dislike this last arc at all, leaving arts and hiatus aside.

So, Meruem really is in love with Komugi. I thought so, but to have it more or less explicitly said really kind of hit me. And, now, the Meruem I was so very fond of is back. Pouf's attempts to stop this have failed and a last ditch word was what saved Welfin's life. Really well done Togashi, I'm really liking where this is going. It'll be tragic, I'm sure. But, I hope Meruem can find her.

Also Jairo is the other ant who left the kingdom back like chapter 224. He will be explained after this arc or maybe sometime after that. The king is going to die soon he knows it and most likely he wants to play one game last game of chess with Komugi.

The chapter was not to bad.. but it felt a little short and some pages seemed wasted... and still no sign of Gon or Kilua ... anyway I wonder what the king will do now that he remember.

omg when is this arc going to end... even way from the beginning, i didnt like it... and im so tired to see the frieza-cell look alike king -.-

A lot of detail here hahahaahaha.

I'd like to say I've been reading this manga for about 6 years now. Since Killua and Gon have become Hunters they've never actually took upon any interest in Hunter occupations. The tower (final training to be a hunter) York Shin (Kurapica's/ Ryodan arc) Greed Island (Looking for information on Gon's father) and Chimera Ant arc (which is truly the first part of the story looking deeply into occupations of some hunters Kaito). It makes you wonder if there were other scenarios similar if not different than this how much Hunters of certain caliber sacrifice loss of comrades and were not treated as heroes. It's most likely not even in the media.  I feel the purpose of this arc is to show the true dark side of being a hunter it's not all adventure and fun.

These guys go through a lot more then many of us readers first thought.

I see how you guys traded opinions back to back but truly the only disappointed thing to me is the hiatuses. When you're used to reading monthly, to indefinite hiatus series like Shamo (which just came back after 4 years), Berserk,  etc.  I could go on forever. Any and all characters or parts of the story I miss always come back. So I feel your pain but it isn't as bad as you all may think. I find those who are used to weekly release stories are the most impatient. Good authors like to finish a story well thought out and take their time. I'd rather not have a cop out ending. :)
