I think that Colt and this chapter here is one of the first times the reader gets a feel for how similar the Ants and Humans can be. He's just as broke up over the Queens death as a human is at the death bed of their parent and I think Morel is touched by that. The first time I saw this in the anime, I didn't really get it. "Why should I feel sad for the death of the Queen?" I thought. But, the concern she has for her child is very touching and I think it's a great indicator of the emotional depth of this arc.
Also, the very first mention of the King's name.

I always thought the death of The Queen was sad, and all of that probably comes from Colt and how he reacts to it. The way his human memories are mixed in with the event is great. You'd never think it would be such a sad moment when the arc started.
But then there's also a lot of hope with some of the ants teaming up with the humans and the lil' baby ant.
