Hunter x Hunter Chapter 214 Discussion

Almost shed a tear in this chapter. So brutal and painful.



Once again Gon and Killua face weakness. 30 days of waiting. A promise of goodbye. They friendship will be strong enough?

Where can I read the English translated manga? Can't find it anywhere for months now...?

Yeah, that Killua and Gon part is just....damn. Seeing Gon having to come to terms with his weakness and how he desperately pleaded with Knuckle to save Kite, along with the crying after that. Killua's was probably even more devastating because it's so rare, along with him steeling himself to leave Gon after these 30 days.



The DBZ comparison is pretty apt and it's intentional. The King is very clearly based on some of the villains of that particular series. And, oh boy, that scene with the little girl. It's just so matter of fact, it was literally nothing to the four of them to kill these people. For some reason, Youpi crouched down eating the parents has always stuck with me.



Let's not forget the Soldier ants leaving the nest to spread their seed and Colt surrendering to the Hunters.

Another great one. The King killing those humans is really sad and effective to show what kind of characters we are dealing with. The previous ants that we've seen that killed humans seemed to be more crazy, screaming and laughing. This situation feels different with everyone being completely calm and The King even getting instructions.



Then we have the rest of the ants starting to split up and Colt trying to save The Queen. There are just so many players this arc.



Finally the end with Gon and Killua is one of the saddest moments in the series. Gon breaking down since he wasn't strong enough and Killua now deciding to leave Gon after 30 days. It's a lot more effective seeing it this way by skipping the end of their fights. Really, it's quite surprising that they lost considering how long they, or at least Gon, trained for it. But that's one of the strengths of the series, to be able to let the characters lose sometimes.

In all seriousness, I really liked this chapter.  But seeing both Gon and Killua cry...so sad.  Killua's determination to protect Gon is beautiful but it's so sad that he has made up his mind to leave Gon after his nen comes back, thanks to the promise he made to Bisk.
