What a masterfully written chapter. Simply wonderful. Over 100 pages of greatness.
That spoiled little brat Kanae was annoying this entire chapter and almost fucked everything up, but I'm glad she learned her place in the end. She got mad at Itto because she fell off of her horse when he killed it to save a child. He saved her life too though from her own reckless behavior.
I got excited for a minute when Diagoro was walking up to the peasants since I thought Itto might see him, but one of the peasants told him to scram.
I'm very surprised Itto agreed to help the peasants and go to the castle as a third party spectator. But if it wasn't for him, the peace talks wouldn't have succeeded and the Han would have potentially had an internal conflict. Itto was able to convince the go-jodai to see the perspective from the peasants side to see what needs to be done to have peace with them and have their Han succeed and prosper so the peasants are happy workers and don't starve to death. Unfortunately, while the go-jodai was out of the castle, his bratty daughter, Kanae started coming up with some bullshit because of her grudge against Itto, so she managed to convince the men of the castle to go find her father and go after Itto. She almost screws things up by telling her father that Itto was a spy and she shoots him with an arrow in the shoulder. He wasn't paying any attention to her because at that moment, he sees Diagoro caught in the flooded river and dives in to rescue him. Seeing Diagoro smile at his father made everything feel so much better. Their long awaited reunion felt so great to see in that moment of his happiness. Itto simply walks away after rescuing his son, but the go-jodai and even his daughter shed a tear and realize the importance of life. I'm glad Itto was able to find his son and teach these people an important lesson at the same time.
