I liked the comparison to the crane that Itto used in this chapter. How it stands firmly on it's own strength and face all odds against it to bare the cold winter. He said this to teach the woman in this chapter a lesson when he witnessed her and her brother in law killing a man who had killed her husband. She claims to have done it out of vengeance, but Itto suspected there was more to it. When she tried to bribe him with 25 ryō and claimed that's probably the most money he'll ever see in his life, it made me laugh. If only she really knew that Itto is very wealthy despite being a ronin.
