It seems like back in this period of Japan, there were a lot of people that were killed, set up, etc. to protect their name, Han, clan, or just for personal gain. I know stuff like that has happened all the time throughout history, but it seems like the Japanese are notorious for this to protect their honor and/or name.
It's sad how a lot of these girls that work at the town inns were basically prostitutes from either owing a debt or being sold into servitude by their poor parents. Who knows how many times girls like the one in this chapter were taken advantage of and possibly killed. This girl was waiting for the right time to carry out her revenge and she almost failed, but she was very lucky Itto was there to carry out the assassination.
