There really playing fast and lose with what you can get away with in an tournament match. Tien proactively broke his leg in front of the officials and the crowd, even if they had no idea he was knocked out that illegal in any self respecting tournament. But all my the drama.

Also the version I'm reading as Tien written as Tian Jinfan? What happened there?

tienshan is really bad here, really don't like it. and though ymacha lost, he did well.

Damn, this was a great chapter. Tien deflecting the Kamehameha kinda takes that tool out of Goku's arsenal one would assume (or at least, it makes it much more difficult to utilize) which is something to keep in mind. I like that Yamcha managed to be quick enough to dodge it, and singling out an entire page for the finishing blow (with a black background and all) was a good way of representing the power behind the move. But of course, Tien breaking his leg is the real headline here, and does a lot to provide investment in the obvious, eventual match between Goku & Tien.

Goku is so caring... Tien is really naive to think Yamcha was the strongest there..

This is probably my favourite tournament arc of the series. And this fight is a good example of why. It's function is just to hype up Tenshinhan but Yamchu still gets to hold his own for a while, and we get to see some actually good martial arts and the flow of action is excellent as always.
