It's the bakumatsu, or in the west the "Meiji Restoration", Gintama style.  The alien invasion at the start of the show was a diversion from history, the Shogun maintained power because the aliens were too strong.  In reality the Shinsengumi were pro-shogun, only to be betrayed by the shogun as a condition for the Shogun being able to retire with a pension (the idea that a "lord" is loyal to his "troops" is a fantasy invented in 1900).  In this story, the Shinseigumi (under Matsudaira of all people) looks as if they are going to lead the restoration.  



So the writer is giving the Shinsengumi revenge 150 years later.



Nobunbou is based on Yoshinobu who, while a Tokugawa, came from the cadet Mito family (and was adopted by the Hitobunashi family).  He was the 15th and final shogun.  Never been a big fan of him, so I like the way they portray him.

Sasaki might have failed but his spark ignited the whole country. Rest in peace Isabouro, there's plenty of people who will carry out your will.

Nobume is the most beautiful girl in manga now. That salute scene was great.

The next chapter should be the beginning of the last arc, probably named ,,country rebellion'' or something similar. I just wonder how Kamui will fit into this arc.



Let's see; Shinsengumi, Mimawarigumi, Matsudairas's man, Joui patriots, Yorozuya, Yagyu, Yoshiwara, Kabukicho, shinobi from Iga, Sakamoto's Kaientai and since they have the same enemy, maybe Takasugi and Kamui. That's a nice rebellion army.

That final salute to Sasaki Isaburo from Nobume made me cry.

I am looking forward to the next arc... It is gonna be a war of bakufu or something like that.

When I see NobuNobu, I always think of Spandam from One Piece... Kinda similar? ._.
