                        ----------------------------------------

I made a post for chapter 1, but then I decided I was just going to read the first 59 chapters and not talk about them in the discussion since they weren't exclusively about duel monsters and that is what I was use to originally, due to having seen some of the anime. But now I'm at the part of Yu-Gi-Oh that I originally was ready to read, so I'll be posting from here on out.

But anyways, I really liked this chapter. Already introducing new characters for Yugi to battle eventually and we get to see Maximillion J. Pegasus and all of his awesomeness right off the bat. This is gonna be good. Yami Yugi is pissed and ready.

Now we are talking, we open up the duelist kingdom arc with a bang!

This s the very first chapter of the Duelist part. Already we see a very big difference compared to the anime, that is the machines they use to simulate the holograms of the monsters. They are not on a massive stadium but in small booths with miniature holograms, that is a very important key difference! Shows the technology is still limited and at its first phases compared to what we got in the anime, and makes Pegasas's motives all the more relevant, with him wanting to steal Kaiba corp and Kaiba's better inventions (aka the duel disk), where in the anime they were rendered pointless seeing how his technology was on a much bigger scale, and Kaiba's duel disk seemed more like a downgrade than an improvement. A plot hole!

Another key difference ofc is the characters. Here they actually reference past events that make sense in the narrative, with Jonouchi saying he will never trust Kaiba for what he did to them in the past, while in the anime it felt forced and had no meaning. Also, Kaiba IS IN A COMA HERE! And Yugi agreed to battle Pegasas out of his own free will; because he loves a good challenge, while in the anime he just did it because his friends were in danger and the shadow game had already began ... a small thing but a huge difference when it comes to characterization!

Very important stuff if you care for proper storytelling without plot holes!

So yeah, a really awesome start!

Good to know.
