God, I hate that word, and I hate these characters. Authors just make them act like that to hide their emptiness and make them look (falsely) mysterious.
I can't even begin to understand the attachment Yoshimori feels for his mother. She's never home, acts like she doesn't care. I'm sure the author will come up with a good reason, but it still won't be enough for me to like her probably.
