Urusei Yatsura Chapter 119 Discussion

The first 2 pages are in color. Probably because this chapter was released a few days before Valentine's Day on February 10, 1982.



Man, this has to be one of my favorite chapters of Urusei Yatsura. The way Ataru acts prideful and jealous is just golden. I can kinda relate to him cause I'd probably act the same if I was in his position.



But there is a huge contradiction with 1981's Valentine's Day chapter, chapter 69 Valentine's Day Disaster where Ataru was actively running away from Lum trying to feed him her own chocolates. In that chapter, Ataru seemingly also didn't care about the chocolates too much.



Either he changed his mind about Valentine's Day chocolates or Lum not giving him chocolates kind of worked as a reverse psychology on him. Or maybe Rumiko Takahashi just forgot about that chapter.




I absolutely loved how this chapter was adapted into the original anime's episode 66. The event was changed from Valentine's Day to Ataru's birthday which made the day more special. The core of the story was still the same. The whole episode might've been dramatic but it was done in a fantastic way.



So I was really disappointed when Season 1 of the Remake did not adapt this chapter. I hated how Remake had so many opportunities to adapt more AtaLum chapters but chose not to. Yeah, I know UY is more than just AtaLum but I think those were the best chapters in the series and it hurts the series' popularity by not adapting them.



I am hoping Season 2 will adapt this chapter alongside Tanabata Date but I'm not holding my breath for it.
