100th chapter! Gotta say the artwork of this series has gotten a lot better in the last ten or so chapters when compared to the earlier chapters. Takahashi's skills improved pretty fast. And it's only going to get better from here on. I think my favorite artstyle of Takahashi is from late Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku. Though everything that came afterward isn't bad either.
But I don't like how it changed with late Inuyasha. Her characters' faces became more angular and they don't look as cute anymore. And I think Takahashi herself expressed regret that she couldn't draw Lum as a cute girl like she used to. :(
I think this is the result of drawing weekly manga for years with little to no breaks. She has unintentionally developed a way to draw manga in the most efficient way possible. And now she doesn't have much room for improvement or experimentation, especially not at her age.
I think it was a huge mistake for Takahashi to not go monthly like most of her peers do. It would've given her more free time and the artwork probably would've been more consistent with her older artstyle. No matter what she thinks of herself, she should take more breaks now that she's older...
At this rate, Mao might be the last major series Takahashi creates. :( Oh well, all good things must come to an end. Can't wait to get around to Mao eventually...
Anyways... I got a little too sidetracked here. Let's talk about the chapter itself.
It was a pretty funny chapter. It's insane to me the boys are so perverted that they'd kiss a used mask of a sick girl with who knows what kind of illness. I guess Japanese men were huge perverts even back in the 80's.
What's even crazier is Ataru calling Lum "a cute girl with big boobs." I don't recall if this line was in the anime or not and it's got me curious.
