I'm not a huge fan of Peach Girl, it was super over the top even for shoujo manga series, but I had decent time reading it, sometimes I'm just in a mood for the silly romance drama.

This spin-off was SO annoying to read though! First of all, basically every Peach Girl reader hated Sae anyway, and she doesn't get any character development across these three volumes. She's still a HORRIBLE person and a bully, just without any interesting characters around.

Saru wouldn't be such a bad addition to her, if he wasn't this naive and pathetic, he is used by Sae in every single chapter, which is just painful to watch. He doesn't get any story arc either, he's just there so Sae has someone to betray and mess around with, since Momo is out of the picture. I'm pretty sure this manga was supposed to be longer than this, but thankfully author just didn't continue, maybe Peach Girl Next is better (without reading it yet I'ms 100% sure it is lol).

Tl;dr: You just can't redeem a bully who keeps smacking puppies and keeps using everyone around her lol, that's the wost possible shoujo manga protagonist material 4.5/10

I wonder if Saru is even relevant in the sequel. You would think with the way the manga ended Saru and Sae would’ve hit it off somehow and Sae would’ve recognized she took him for granted and would learn to appreciate how much Saru really cares for her. In the physical books, Miwa Ueda expressed she was stressed out juggling her time making more chapters and tending to her newborn all at once so her pacing with the chapters were really slow at the time. She mentioned she was “taking a break” from creating more chapters which is why Sae’s story ended this way kind of abruptly. It’s completely valid not to continue with this after so much time has passed. Heck, she made a sequel eventually anyway lol but based on the ending here, it’s probable that Miwa Ueda wanted some direction between Saru and Sae but couldn’t really get to that point. Also, I agree with you on everything here. Sae is still shit and I think there could’ve have been a potential for a redemption arc for her with Saru here but I guess I will just have to read the sequel now and see what happens there 😂
