I don't see why everyone else is angry at you for this, I completely agree. I've been reading this mess for around 6 years now and even if it has become this trainwreck, I can't see myself suddenly stopping after those 500 chapters. I'm going to see i through, although it's ultimately been a waste of time.

I was complaining about how Mashima wasted an opportunity with Zeref and Mavis' child and was actually pleasantly surprised after the reveal last chapter. But Mashima completely crushed it the next week. This legitimately makes me angry. So much wasted potential...

It wasn't JUST the writing this time, many panel layouts and some of the poses seemed off (by that I mean, they were distracting and adding anything new, except another 1000th weird shot of Lucy's tits)

I don´t really feel attacked as it´s just the aforementioned people that get defensive over my criticisms. I agree with all of your points, though I do not mind getting confrontational, wether it´s real life or over the internet. When someone has nothing I consider valueable to add I just ignore them since they don´t matter to begin with.

But let´s get back on topic. Fairy Tail always was a controversial series because of it´s upbringing. From the getgo it was deemed  a One Piece ripoff by The One Piece fanbase and while the more reasonable people, including me, thought of it as a series, that may have been inspired by One Piece, but certainly had the same inspirational roots any modern succesful Battle Shounen has, Dragon Ball.

Personally I´m following the series for around 9 years now since early in it´s conception. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, before I started reading. The only reason for my curiosity being the scanalation sites I was using  promoting it vehemently. But I immediately got hooked after reading the first panel and was introduced to "Sieglein". A clear reference to Ravemaster, which I had thoroughly enjoyed till complition  and also one of my two favorite characters in the seires itself. Fairy Tail continued revealing itself to be the next big Shounen Manga in Japan  as well as globally rivaling the "Big 3", a term I didn´t knew at the time, in popularity and quality, with ups downs. Then the 7 year Tenru Island timeskip happened and throughout the arc leading up to it, we were given conclusions to already introduced questions, but also given more questions that impacted the story as whole in an overarcing manner, while the powercreep kept expanding alongside the world and it´s lore by connecting seemingly every plotline relevant to Earthland together. Something Fairy Tail had avoided with it´s mostly self contained Sagas before. Seemingly ushering a new era for the series. Promises were made, developments were hinted upon, just to not only regress them back, but instead remove the majority of the supporting cast from the spotlight it had,to instead keep repeating the same boring conclusions with the inner main cast for most of the time.

The decline of Fairy Tail started with it´s first timeskip since everything from there on out was interconnected and flaws from one bad arc were either carried over or repeated in the next one. It didn´t help to introduce a plehtora of uneeded characters that contributed nothing, barely mattered to anything, either.

It only enhanced the problems the series already had.

Priorities were also thrown out the window, buildup, fighting correopgraphy, pacing, all were bygone to  force cheap laughs or fanservice into a chapter.

@ Canaas

It doesnt matter it was is smarter from Hiro to introduce an overpowered ability and then retroactively nerf it through stupid nonsensical behaviour by it´s user, like overconfidence or a cheap time limitation, or exhaustion, or not introduce it to begin with.  It is a Shounen staple and should be therefore measured with the same gauge his peers received.

I just hate double standards. Hypocrisi is sadly one of the most common human traits.

Ofc it´s smarter to not introduce an unbalanced ability  than finding an excuse why a character cannot use it, but that would take out alot of the cinimatic spectacle Shounen Manga deliver.

I don´t know what Hiro´s reasoning behind the number 12 was, wether it is symbolic or it´ll be revealed to have a practical use. Currently they all have been exceptionless a waste of space and time. I don´t buy that he had planned to introduce Erza´s mother before this arc, or at least this was the sole story he had prepared. One of the Spriggans is Erza´s Mom the end! Same for August. Mavis and Zeref had a kid. The end! He obvisouly didn´t had thought of this idea during the couples conception. That´s why it was so badly written.

Yes I agree that everything has been fucked up and that´s because Hiro has abanoned any obligation, he just writes whatever the hell comes into his head and the Editor just approves it.

That's just sad, seeing August and Larcade going like that :(

Precht was quite the important person after all.

Jesus Christ..........this series needs to end ASAP because I'm going to have a heart attack or something. The way August went out was extremely pathetic:

"Oh I'm gonna kill myself and take the whole world with me."

*sees mother in the distance*

"Lol never mind peace bitches."

I'm fully convinced that Mashima just doesn't give a shit anymore. He knows the diehards will literally eat up all the crap he shits out, so what's the point of putting in effort. Honestly though, I feel like once again, Mashima wrote himself into a corner with how powerful he made August, so I guess this was literally the only way he could get rid of him. Still a joke though.

Oh yeah, almost forgot Larcade died too. Whatever, I didn't care about him at all. In fact, you could straight up erase Larcade's existence from this arc and nothing of value would be lost.

At least August went out because emotions and not gildarts/cana.

Natsu/zeref bonds still there for some reason.

August's death was so meaningless. He was the strongest of Spprigan 12 and disappears this way? This is so disappointing. Worst arc definitely.

I hope that at least the fight between Natsu and Zeref is decent.

Is nobody going to comment on next week's chapter title??

Dragon Demon... guess those seeds didn't really go POOF after all. I'm all for Natsu to turn into a Dragon/Demon megamix as long as he still has his wits about him.

Wonder who's saltier between people who are getting angry at the manga for legitimate reasons and people who are getting angry at people getting angry at the manga. It sure seems like one category can't handle criticism all that well though. If those topics were created for the sole purpose of sucking each others off at how great Fairy Tail is, which it isn't, there would be no point. We are allowed to vent our negativity just as you are allowed to express your positivity, it works both ways.

It's not like people suddenly decided that FT was going to shit, it's been several years since the fans started complaining about the overall quality of the series. In my case I was never a fan to begin with, I always thought FT was a subpar shonen but I did acknowledge its potential and wanted to see more. If I myself am thoroughly disappointed with the nonsense we've been served each week for a while, it's not hard to imagine why true fans would get legitimately upset. You can't just brush off negative criticism by saying they're just hopping on the hatewagon.

Getting back to the chapter itself, the big problem here is, again, the execution. The concept of August's defeat COULD work, but because it's already been used some mere 3 chapters ago and because August's character is simply unexploited as a whole, it just comes off as cheap and lazy. He saw his mother and cancelled his attack and died. Okay fine. Am I supposed to get emotional for a character no one gives a shit about? No point whatsoever.
