Well, I'll take your word and assume all that happened. It hasn't been explained yet, so it could possibly be due to Zeref... But truth be told, I have no rebuttal to your argument, so I can't exactly say it isn't foreshadowing.
I´m just saying that within the FT universe there are things out there that may or may not be connected to Zeref, one of them being responsible for his condition and for Mavis death.
The sole thing we know about it, is it´s a major dick that likes cursing people.
We also know that demons use curses and how a curse gets created, according to comments from every demon of the Tartaros arc.
Puzzle it together yourself.
