Skip Beat! Chapter 229 Discussion

Did this manga just take an extremely dark turn? :,'(

Maybe that's why she wouldn't touch Kyouko... because she was afraid she would lash out at her if reminded of that time. (Or maybe we are getting trolled and she just wakes up like normal.) I've never wanted to be trolled so badly before, but this author isn't known for pulling pranks (this isn't Nisekoi we're dealing with here).

(FYI: The most common type of rape is acquaintance rape. Trust is dangerous, you know.)

                        ----------------------------------------

Mother didn't want to touch Kyoko because she would hurt her...  Shoutaro's mother's the lawyer's sister?!  That's why she got Kyoko to stay with the family to protect her...

That scene at the end... Did that "boyfriend" of her do something while she went straight to sleep after dinner because of being tired for a long time or just saying good night...?

Despite it being a shoujo, Nakamura always pushed the bounds in her work. I mean Ren used to beat people up and that indirectly lead to Rick's death. We can see the type of psychological impact it cause him. I don't doubt the notion that what's-his-face drugged Saeko. But I'm confused as to why?

Sure there is that court case, but that's a whole four days away. How could drugging her so far away from the case be beneficial? Then there is the idea of him raping her. This has 3 outcomes: 1) Saeko manages to wake up in the middle of him doing it, or 2) she wakes up afterwards and he gloats, or 3) she takes a pregnancy test later to confirm.

Despite that, even if he did impregnant her, she still wouldn't know. I mean most pregnancy sticks can't confirm until 2-8 weeks of pregnancy.

And even if he did rape and impregnate her, couldn't she go to the police? Rape is a serious matter, especially if he drugged her. Plus, the police are more likely to believe a female in a rape-situation (which isn't generally a good thing, mind you). That would surely get him kicked off the case.

I don't know. It could be that she got a fever and passed out and Nakamura wanted us to freak out.

I don't know. It could be that she got a fever and passed out and Nakamura wanted us to freak out. There's more than one reason why most sexual assault cases are never actually reported. Especially considering the culture of Japan...

Fucking shit, that ending right there. I don't think my binge watching Detective Conan has helped my brain... but seems like it's possible she was slipped sleeping pills and something bad was about to happen. Obviously not extremely bad, should that be the actual case, but she seemed to fall asleep too quickly. Even when I'm tired and sleepy from being full I make it to my room no problem. Also do remember that Kyoko's mom did warn her it may be something that'll hurt her by knowing as well. So, never know how things will go at this point.

Okay. I don't know if it's me, but after catching up, and being introduced to that guy, uh is his name Katagiri?, he seemed mad suspicious to me from the get-go. The guy that Kyoko's mother is seeing, yeah, mad sus. But in hopes of anything, I hope Kyoko has the chance to ask all the questions she wants to ask her mother~ And seriously, there needs to be some development with Kyoko and Ren's relationship. Like, c'mon leggo.

That ending...the suspense

I'm really liking Kyouko's mother back story, I'm glad we get a chance to learn more about her

I really hope nothing bad happened after the last scene :(

Wow can't wait for the next chapter!

She had her purse with her the whole time. There could also be the chance that she willingly but unknowingly got herself pregnant (she did say she wasn't opposed to "that"~sex, I'm sure). The guy said something about working part time for a firm just like her (correct me if I'm wrong), so it could be that he read over some important papers regarding the case (in her purse) and it turned out that his place was going against her team in court. The trial day came and then Mogami's team lost (His motive could be to get ahead in his career since he wasn't as well off as her? He used her?) She realizes what happened and then he leaves her and never talks to her again, betraying her, breaking her heart, damaging her career, and unknowingly leaving her pregnant with Kyoko. It would make sense because of her obsession to win cases when Kyoko was young and also her worry when she heard about Kyoko running away with Sho and them being "lovers". It's not as intense as rape, which I also thought could've happened, but it could make Mogami dislike Kyoko's presence as a child as well. It's also not so intense that she can learn to accept Kyoko now that she is older and she has had plenty of time to get over the past.

I kinda like the background story too that connects with this arc. That ending is creepy with the hand. I hope it's a delusion rather than what I think may be happening...

That was such an ominous ending... I really like Saeko XD She's really awkward and funny :P It feels like a weird turn around from my first view of her... That guy she's dating(?) seems really nice but also very sketchy???

Well, from the very beginning I always pictured in my mind that the reason why Saeko-san hated her so much was because she was raped and that's how Mogami came to us. Hating her for being a child of a man who raped her seemed very logical to me. And now after this episode, it's kind of solidifying my claim. Heck, I even thought that that lawyer was the culprit after I saw how he came back to see Saeko in her office.

Of course, I wouldn't like either of these scenarios to come true, and I really wish that guy whom Saeko was dating was a nice guy, as he was portrayed from the beginning, but this last part just seems too fishy.

Well this is a shoujo so I doubt something like that might've happen and what's that about 4 days remaining again?

Exactly! I always thought that Kyouko was probably the child of some really traumatic relationship and this hardly surprises me. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is a perfectly fitting move for Nakamura-sense I to pull, though. Despite all the cute and happy elements in this manga, there's always some sort of darkness lurking under the surface of all the characters.
