I love how Thorfinn has matured so much, that even his hand gestures have changed. A really small, but great detail. I get the feeling the story will test Thorfinn's conviction against violence at some point.

Another showcase of Thorfinn's naivety here, showing his lack of understanding about law, trade and commerce in comparison to Halfdan and his years of wisdom, as well as framing him as acting like a hyperactive child in not fully listening to Halfdan's words and bouncing around about the prospects. Not to mention the fact that, as sound as Halfdan's advice sounds, he doesn't even think critically about it for a second and just blindly agrees with him.

Indeed. And it's all going to come to bear soon.
Considering what is known about the Norse experience in Vinland, it's clear that this adventure will be ultimately unsuccessful, unless Yukimura wants to make a statement and rewrite history. But more likely, Halfdan's offer sets up a "happy" ending of sorts, where Thorfinn can return to Iceland as his heir.

It'll be interesting to see how this interdependence strategy plays out.  The thing is, though, it only works if both parties can fulfill their promises.  One bad wheat harvest and the whole deal may go sideways.  Establishing an equitable deal is tricky, as well.

Not sure why people are comparing this system to capitalism; unless Thorfinn, in a future chapter, makes an anachronistic reference to 'invisible hand' of the market -- but I doubt it.  If anything, this is more of a barter system.

Hmm that might work the use of barter system they call it..i like how Yukimura introduced the ideas of "Thing" and then Halfdan offered Thorfinn to become his son i wonder if he'll decline it.
