yup...both confrontations (thofinn vs canute; thorfinn vs floki) would be interesting, but as stated above, the one with floki can have great repercussions in both the story and the main character

after spending so much time trying to kill his father's killer, what about giving some thought towards the one who actually wanted him dead and why, and most importantly, what is thorfinn is going to do about it now that he is a changed man, and closer to what his father had become in his last years

i am also not against never having thorfinn and the king cross each other's path ever again, and simply following each other as parallels...it'd feel less forced and more original

I can't see the current Thorfinn approving of Canute's ideology that the end justifies the mean. However, I remember in volume 8 how Thorkell looked displeased with Canute's methods, so something might come out of it and he may end up leaving with Thorfinn to thors' hometown. And like I said, it maybe through that scenario that Floki's intentions will be revealed.

Yes there is the parallelism going on but I think the relationship between

them is a tad bit overplayed by fans.

The reason why I'm anticipating the Thorfinn/Canute reunion is that at the end of volume 11, on the very last page, there's a line in the margin that states: "かくしてクヌート王の軍勢対ケテイルの農場, 確定。最悪の再会がトルフィインを待ち受ける!" which translates to: "and so, king Canute's army vs Ketil's farm. Thorfinn will reunite with him in the worst possible way." It could only foreshadow that Thorfinn and Canute will reunite in this arc, and what Thorfinn will witness could be something similar to what Canute did in Marcia in volume 8. I don't expect Thorfinn will aim for his life, but at least we might get an interesting flashback of the aftermath of Askeladd's death and how Thorfinn ended up as a slave.

As for Folki, it bothered me while reading the prologue why Thorfinn had never confronted him about his father's death, even though Folki had maintained a close relationship with Askeladd. My speculation is that Thorfinn's reunion with Canute might also reunite him with Thorkell, which will at some point lead to him meeting with his mother's family. It might be through that kind of plot that Thor's backstory with Folki will be brought to light, and why Folki wanted Thor dead.

An interesting chapter, which felt a bit disjoined at times. At this point of the story,  Arneis might as well succumb to her wounds and providing interesting possibilities in regards to our hero's development.

It's also nice to see how every part of the Ketil family is more or less doing what he does best. I expect a few highlights from them during the upcoming battle.

i need more action more damn it

Stop complaining about the lack of action already, we just entered a skrimish and VS is not a gorefest where there is violence just for the sake of violence.

Good possibility. Not that I want Arneis dead, but no Thorfinn-Canute reunion would be a huge disappointment.

Their past relationship must have been built up for some reason, they have to be reunited at some point and I'm pretty sure Thorfinn wasn't Canute's first real friend (well, not counting his babysitter) for nothing. A meeting between Canute who has become a violent and cold king with hallucinations of dead people, and Thorfhinn who has lived the past years as a slave and just recently learned the real value of life and tries to protect it now, it has to be awesome. In a way, their ideals have been flipped, a meeting between these two is so interesting, of course the build up is huge for this key-moment.

I'm sure we'll see something amazing when it happens, but it still might take some chapters.

haha what are you talking about? there's been more action in this last chapter than there's been in the last ten or twenty previous chapters combined

i really liked this one...stuff is happening and the plot got out of its long-held standstillI know i like it but i just need more pages for a monthly release

This. To quote myself from a little way back:

This story is about quite a bit more than just vikings. Granted, the action in the earlier arcs was top-notch and it's easy to see how much of a cocktease the current arc is to some people, but if you think the Viking violence was the whole point then you're clearly missing the big picture.

Finally, the start of the battle-or bloodbath is the right word to describe it.

I've been wondering why a seasoned warrior like Thorgil had been eager to enter the battle when it was blatant they were going to lose, but it turned out he had a plan all along. I wonder if his plan will end up failing because his brother withdrew in the last minute. I can't wait to see how Canute is going to elude death in the next chapter. I hope there will be Ulf vs Thorgil: they seem to be equally strong.

Arneise's dream could be forshadowing she will not going to make it. If that happens, I wonder if it will be the incentive for Thorfinn to return to the farm and confront Ketil, which will lead to his reunion with Canute.

Meh. I'm not really too concerned with a Thorfinn and Canute reunion.

Yes there is the parallelism going on but I think the relationship between

them is a tad bit overplayed by fans. That's not to say there's no drama

there. But I don't think there's really much of a rivalry going on at all.

Thorfinn has gotten past his want for revenge and it wouldn't make

much sense for him to still hold a grudge against Canute for killing his

prey--Askeladd. On the other hand I don't think Canute considers

Thorfinn particularly important. Maybe I need to re-read the volumes

but I don't remember Canute and Thorfinn ever becoming friends.

Yes, Canute spared Thorfinn's life when he could have easily killed

him but I don't see that as friendship but more a sign of understanding

on Canute's part. I see little motivation for either person to meet and

clash and I think confrontation while it could be interesting because

of their swapped and conflicting ideals would feel a bit forced.

Really I just rather have a dual story with Thorfinn's journey

juxtaposed with Canute's reign but no clash between the two.

As I have said before the confrontation that I AM looking forward to is

Thorfinn and Floki. I think this is is leagues more important given that

not only did Floki hire Askeladd to kill Thors the father of Thorfinn

but somehow I think there's a bit more going on to that story

and Askeladd knew something was fishy. With Thorfinn

being pretty much the "student" of Askeladd I think that

makes a Thorfinn vs Floki confrontation very interesting.

To me, Floki seems very much like "the man behind the curtain"

and well I ain't gonna lie but I'd like to see the bastard

be put to justice. Or at the very least I want Thorfinn

to find out the truth. I think he has the right to know.

In short--

Thorfinn vs Canute:

The contrast in ideals paralleling each other is interesting

but I don't think we need to go all Batman vs Joker here.

Conflict is possible but it would require some plot device

and/or break in character.

Thorfinn vs Floki

Huge potential for conflict given who Floki is and Thorfinn's new outlook on life.

Also Floki being basically The Dragon of both King Swyen and now Canute

Floki knows something that I think is The Plot Driving Secret which I think

it's about time both Thorfinn as the protagonist and us as the audience

should know.
