Story:
There is definitely a story here. However, what could have been developed over multiple chapters—or even several volumes—was instead crammed into three brief segments. This results in a lack of cohesion, with abrupt jumps between different points in time and only the bare essentials of the tale making an appearance. Although concise storytelling can sometimes enhance the impact of a read, I believe it wasn't executed effectively in this manga.
Characters:
The characters are at the heart of this manga. They aren't merely tools for advancing the plot; they are the plot itself. As such, their motivations and backstories naturally take center stage. Indeed, as I've mentioned, the characters form the core of the narrative. Yet, due to the limited scope, only the most basic elements of their arcs are explored.
Art:
The artwork in this manga is commendable. It reinforces my belief that this could have been an exceptional piece if given more room to grow and develop its story and characters meticulously. The detailed illustrations align perfectly with the setting and the realistic tone the story aims to maintain.
Overall, this had the potential to be one of the better yaoi manga, but it fell short due to the limitations imposed on it.
Art:
The art is flawless. The mangaka's attention to detail is impressive, and the illustrations are incredibly realistic. It feels as though the characters could step off the page and come to life. In my opinion, it's quite remarkable. The artwork is also historically accurate, from the uniforms worn by the characters to their surroundings, everything exudes authenticity. Additionally, none of the characters can be mistaken for female; there's no overly feminine "uke" here.
Characters and Story:
The two main characters are truly distinctive. Both are deeply troubled men, each grappling with their own inner demons. The soldier bears the weight of his actions and experiences in war, while the priest struggles with the repression imposed upon him by the church, trying to control his desires and enduring immense suffering as a result.
This line from the manga encapsulates the story well:
"A man's insanity always turns against its fellow man in the end, and when that happens, that man will trample us with an immorality unequaled by any demon."
The narrative isn't laid out plainly, so you must pay close attention. Don't rush through it just because it's a short story—there's a wealth of depth to explore.
Overall, I'd say Giglio is a truly unique manga that can be appreciated by all yaoi enthusiasts, regardless of whether you prefer intense yaoi or not.
Nah the REAL toxic partner is the MC's ABUSIVE POS System. ALL THE HATE FR
So imo the tags are just the equivalent of saying This is Rated R so there's violence. Like there's mainstream love interests out there who have more red flags than my barbarian boy and they don't even have the excuse of being raised in an uncivilised society.
Oh and the M-preg is more like cabbage patch kids mixed with literal brain child.
