"Wings symbolize freedom, enabling us to transcend the constraints of gravity and challenge divine limitations..."

But for Vendemiaire, there is no such thing as freedom.

" Wings of Vendemiaire " is a deeply moving manga that delves into the existence—or perhaps non-existence—of a group of winged puppets, all named Vendemiaire. These beings are the ultimate caged entities, evoking pity from humans who repeatedly attempt to liberate them. However, it is Vendemiaire themselves who must come to realize that the cage might not be as impenetrable as it seems.

    Story:
Mohiro Kito excels at crafting narratives that are both unsettling and breathtaking. His stories are neither straightforward nor easily decipherable. "Wings of Vendemiaire" weaves multiple subplots, yet they all seem to revolve around a central theme (you'll have to determine what that theme is). Some subplots can be challenging to grasp, and if you don't focus on the dialogue, you might overlook crucial details necessary for understanding the story as a whole.

    Art:
While I appreciate the art in Kito's works, it doesn't captivate me as much as the storytelling and characters do. Nonetheless, the minimalist backgrounds and expressive character designs effectively complement the profound themes explored in the manga.

    Character:
The Vendemiaire are fully aware of their non-human nature, yet their actions and personalities evolve with each chapter. Despite their inherent kindness and goodwill, their desire for freedom mirrors a significant human flaw.

    Enjoyment/Overall:
I wasn't entirely certain if I fully understood this manga, even after revisiting sections I had initially overlooked. The enjoyment derived from "Wings of Vendemiaire" hinges on whether you perceive it as meaningful or merely a stream of consciousness from the brilliant mind of Mohiro Kito. I leave you with one thought-provoking question: "What would happen if the caged bird fought back?"

Having a stalker character in the story is a fairly ingenious way to indirectly learn about the target, although it may be subject to the 'cliche' status
