You live in a world where hunters known as Busters (Soul Reapers) are tasked solely with slaying evil creatures called Vandels (Hollows), whose sole purpose is to kill humans. However, seasoned Busters can create a magical weapon unique to themselves, which grows stronger and more capable as they develop together, called Saiga (Zanpakuto). Of course, there are characters who are either too inexperienced or lack the ability to wield Saiga, and they often resort to a more magical form of destructive spells called Tengeki (Kidou), which also has a dark counterpart usable only by Vandels (Cero). Then there's the team: the never-give-up, hit-it-with-a-stick-until-it-dies protagonist who always seems to have the answer, Beet (Ichigo); his quirky best friend/love interest who pretends to want nothing to do with him but really has a major crush, Poala (Rukia); his dark, strong, rival-like friend who never quite measures up, Slade (Chad); his intelligent friend who can't use the standard weapon and instead takes a magical approach, Kissu (Uryuu); and the ditzy, attractive woman who wants to be with everyone, Milfa (Orihime). Naturally, there's also the villain who murdered the hero's family and sets them on their quest for vengeance, Beltorze (Grand Fisher).
The entire plot revolves around the characters hunting down Vandels (Hollows) to rid the world of their evil, while in the process improving their rank (Busters have a bounty hunter system combined with a DnD-style "leveling up" as they defeat more and stronger Vandels and monsters), and they also get paid for their kills. The story is a bit too clichéd for my taste, though it is engaging. It's also on an indefinite hiatus (and has been for a long time). Honestly, I would continue reading this if it were ever published again, but don't expect anything overly original or groundbreaking from this series.
