TTGL *the manga* is essentially an adaptation of the anime, serving as a recap and promotional piece for the original show that came out before it. The plot is almost identical to the source material, scene by scene, though most minor scenes and character interactions have been removed to focus on the major plot points, saving time in the process.
The artwork has a very appealing style that suits Gurren Lagann well, but one of my biggest issues with this adaptation lies in the fight scenes. It's nearly impossible to follow what's happening in them half the time, making them extremely hard to read and turning them into a chore. Most of the time, the only reason I could understand what was going on was because I had already seen the anime.
On the character front, this is where the manga shines more. It adds extra small details and story moments unique to the manga, along with short 4koma strips at the end of each chapter (drawn by various well-known mangaka). These elements are what made the manga worthwhile for me.
It's enjoyable enough to get through, and it would make a nice addition to your collection if you're a fan of the show. However, if you haven't watched Gurren Lagann yet, this is not the place to start.

In the initial arc, towards the later stages, the quality dips slightly, which is why I can't rate it a 9 or 10. Nonetheless, overall, it's an excellent experience whether you're watching or reading.
